President's Day 2001: Ogilby
(Scroll down for photos)
For President's Day, I met up with several chatters again
and met some new people as well. The chatters that made it were Mike330R,
JeffH, BCRC400ex, Surfer, LT80, WBGO, Knight, and Fire2881. I got to Ogilby
Friday night around 9:30pm, got my camper setup, and hung out around the
fire.
Saturday morning I put on a new front sprocket and my duning
tires and was ready to ride. I went with WBGO and a couple others to watch
him shoot some photos of a Raptor and powervalved Banshee he was testing. I
came back to camp and a big group of us went for a dune ride. We did a
couple more rides during the day, hit Patton hill for some dragging, and
about eight of us went to Pair-A-Dice by Gordon's Well to eat. After we got
back, several of us went for a night ride and duned over to Test Hill. Like
usual, the hill was packed and pretty wild.
On Sunday, a big group of us went on a ride in pursuit for
the perfect jump. We found a couple OK jumps but WBGO found one he really
liked. It shot you up in the air with a pretty good landing. On my third
jump though, I landed pretty hard on an angle and hurt my ankle. I
stopped jumping but I ended up doing some dragging at Patton on the way back
and spanked some Honda big bores. After we got to camp, I took my boot off and my ankle had swollen up
so bad it looked like someone put a baseball in it. It hurt the rest of the day and night and I didn't do anymore riding. In the
afternoon, everyone duned over to the sand drags at Gordon's Well so I took
my truck over and was able to check out the action there. When I got back,
we all had some dinner, watched some videos Fire2881 shot, and hung out
around the fire.
I was hoping to do a ride on Monday before I left but I was hurting too
much so I packed up and headed out around 10:30am. I ended up going to the
doctor for my ankle on Wednesday and had a badly sprained ankle but no broken
bones. Even
with hurting my ankle, I still had a great time as always. The
weather was partly sunny to sunny with temps in 70's. Who could ask for
better than that in February.
